Run for a reason

I have been training so frequently on running that I almost forgot why I run.

I have been longing to get back to the field where I find the joy in my life, with football and friends. We might not always win, but we played with fun.

But now that I have resumed my capability to play, I have lost the friends to play with me. Because of work or anything else, no one is there for me.

I have lost the most important cause to run. Now I run, run for no where.

I used to try to have company when I do running. The merits are you wont feel alone and you can talk whatever you like.

But then I realize running should be a solo game. Different people have different paces. Nothing should alter your pace, not the traffic lights, your opponents or the tempo of the music you listen to.

I am a solo man afterwards, and I will continue to do it all alone.

Let me tell you my feeling about our city now.

A year has passed since the so called umbrella revolution. Things have changed, but there are a lot of things around us that have changed for so many years, which perhaps it is too late to notice, let alone rectify or reverse.

How about the shops on the streets. Most of them have become chain stores, running behind by a mega-size company. The staff do not even own the shops, for they are hired. It is the result of economic efficiency, they says. However, we don't just have the services we want: Do we deserve some bonding and relationship with the shopkeeper, who actually own and love this properties and products? Isn't it feeling better when you are suggested by a human being about some products you will like, rather than the calculation made by a big data, which predict what you will want?

How about the people in the trains. It just becomes very rare to see them read a real book, rather than their electronic devices. And it is also rare to see them read than play games. I know everyone, including me, needs relaxation. It makes me sick that we need some candy crush to relax ourselves everyday, while some group in the world deploy a machine to discover the presence of water in Mars.

How about everything else. Life has been dull and working is dull and mechanical. The more we try to avoid to become a robot, the more we are engaged into the institutions to run according to protocol, so we can avoid mistakes. The odourless and colorless has nothing worthy of living. You have been here to lighten up the road and electrify my life. But perhaps the timing has never been right or I must have been dreaming. You not only give me some meaning to life, but also wake me up from my dream in the end of September that you are leaving me.

I have not spoken everything I want to tell. The world and the time have torn me apart and I am never complete again. I can't handle any movie, for there is nothing interesting now. I can't listen to any music, for the melody is not attractive anymore.

After all the low, I just want to convert all my message into gratitude. Thank you for making me a human being for at least a while. Hope to see you again.

And the robot inside has lost his direction once again.

Everyone should agree that on team level, Rinus Michels and Johan Cryuff made an huge influence on modern European Football. Their philosophies are widespread and you cannot avoid but seeing many top coaches were from Ajax and Barcelona, including Jose Mourinho (despite his playing are just the opposite).


Ronaldinho is perhaps the key difference of the modern world football, on the individual level.

After a successful World Cup in 2002, the Brazilian still played in PSG, when it was not a really great team like today. Transferring to a bigger club was the only way out. He had two choices. One was to replace David Beckham and become the new no.7 in Red Devils. The other one was to rebuild Barcelona, who was unable to achieve anything at all those years.

When he almost signed for the ticket towards English Football, he turned to the Spanish, and helped the team climb towards to summit of the Europe. More importantly, a boy from Argentina called Leo Messi inherited his magic and establish the truly amazing talent-driven style.

That's why Manchester United, after being ditched by the Brazilian no.10, turned to Cristiano Ronaldo.

While it is likely that The Portuguese would land to other European clubs like Arsenal, it was very unlikely for the Manchester club to get both Ronaldinho and Ronaldo at the same time. Ronaldo would have never lighted up the red devils like he did.

Though Ronaldo left for Real Madrid later, it is not really a bad thing for Manchester United to miss Ronaldinho, really.

To me, I could make the same analogy for the incidents of my life. I was never meant to work in a place very eastern, 2 years ago.

But if I was not there, I could have never encounter the life events, however good or bad they meant to me.

Last week I watched the defeat of Manchester United in Stamford Bridge, despite showing a commanding display from all the players.

Eden Hazard, the blue's no.10, was the difference. He did not need to get a lot of balls. But when he did, he ran and made David de gea grabbed the ball from the net.

His pace and his attitude made me recall a Manchester United hero, Cristiano Ronaldo. They actually did not play in the same style, but they made the same difference to their teams: winning the matches.

I cannot help revisiting the debut match of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003 at Old Trafford. The opponent was Bolton. The Red Devil scored four goals from three players, but the TV report (which I saw that time) only mentioned one name that you would remember for long time: The new no.7.

And the rest is history.

I am never the same kind of player in the pitch. He has a much better speed and dribbling skills, later on powerful and precise shooting. Two unrelated dreams again.
